With reference to my letter of the 17th instant, I am directed to inform you that it has been found on investigation that while the room which Mr. Lochs occupied left nothing to be desired there was neglect, which is much re- -gretted and which has been officially dealt with, on the part of the Folios in not providing Mr. Beehs with a bed and bedding.

A copy of this letter will be sent to the Governor of the Straits Settlements for communication to Er. Boehm with an expression of the regret of this Government.
